“Dance Moms” star Abby Lee Miller has filed a lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and two surgeons, alleging medical malpractice and negligence after a foreign object—a catheter—was left in her abdomen following spinal surgery in 2020. Miller, 59, claims she has endured pain for years and that her complaints to various doctors were routinely dismissed, leaving her to suffer with the catheter inside her. Her attorney, Nadine Lewis, stated that her discomfort escalated over time, affecting her quality of life significantly.
By March 2024, Miller’s abdominal pain had become debilitating. While seeking treatment for an unrelated issue at another hospital, she was referred to the emergency room, where a CT scan revealed the catheter. It was surgically removed two days later in June 2024. The lawsuit seeks nearly $1.5 million in damages, highlighting broader concerns about women’s pain being overlooked in medical settings. Lewis emphasized that Miller’s experience reflects a troubling trend where women’s pain is often ignored, even when they are vocal about their distress.
Cedars-Sinai has declined to comment on the pending lawsuit due to legal and privacy regulations, emphasizing their commitment to patient safety and care standards. Meanwhile, attempts to get comments from the physicians involved yielded no response, as one of the doctors’ offices ended the call, and the other declined to comment.
Miller previously gained national attention in 2017 when she was sentenced to a year in prison for bankruptcy-related charges. The lawsuit sheds light on significant issues surrounding medical treatment and the importance of listening to patients’ concerns, particularly for women.
