Grand Forks Red River Boys Golf Team Faces Challenge on Day 1 of State Championship
MINOT — The Grand Forks Red River boys golf team has some ground to cover if they aim to defend their state title, finishing Day 1 of the North Dakota Class A state meet in third place. The Roughriders trail leader Fargo Davies by five strokes, scoring 307 against Davies’ 302 and Minot North’s 304.
Coach Nate Olson reflected on the day’s challenges, noting the team’s performance fluctuated but prevented a total collapse. "A 307 is pretty high for us," Olson commented, as their typical scores hover around the 300 mark. Kolby Koerner emerged as the team’s standout, placing second overall with a score of 70, while Bismarck Century’s Parker Beck leads with a 67.
Other Red River scorers included Stetsen Brown (76), Silas Dusenbury (80), and Jordan Peters (81). Olson remained optimistic, highlighting the competitiveness of this year’s tournament and the potential for lead changes on the second day, set to begin Wednesday at 7:40 a.m. at Vardon Golf Club. As the teams jockey for position, the excitement builds for a thrilling conclusion to the championship.
