Minot Man Sentenced for Mobile Home Fire

Minot, ND – Shaine Orvell Lund, 42, has been sentenced to 25 days in Ward County Jail following an Alford plea in connection with a mobile home fire incident. The sentence was handed down by Judge Douglas Mattson in North Central District Court after Lund pleaded to one Class C felony count of endangering by fire or explosion, with a burglary charge dismissed.

On February 11, Lund contacted Minot Central Dispatch to report that he had started a fire in an unoccupied mobile home to keep warm. He indicated that the fire was spreading rapidly, preventing him from exiting the residence. Emergency responders quickly arrived and evacuated him from the situation. Lund explained that he had entered the mobile home to escape the cold after failing to find a friend.

As part of the sentence, Lund will serve 25 days, with an additional 335 days suspended, and he will undergo one year of supervised probation. Upon successful completion of the probation, the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor. Additionally, Lund was ordered to pay $650 in fines and fees.
