Tulane Baseball Triumphs in Dramatic Comeback Against North Dakota State
New Orleans, LA – The Tulane baseball team (10-3) showcased their resilience with a thrilling 7-6 comeback victory over North Dakota State (1-12) on March 7 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The game, which saw Tulane trailing late, became an electrifying battle decided in the ninth inning.
The decisive rally started with a lead-off walk by Nate Johnson followed by pinch runner Theo Bryant IV. A wild pitch advanced both runners, leading to Michael Lombardi’s crucial infield single that allowed Bryant to score the tying run. Lombardi’s hit was compounded by a throwing error from the Bison second baseman, enabling Tanner Chun to dash home with the winning run.
Lombardi was the standout performer for Tulane, recording three hits, scoring two runs, and securing four RBIs, a career-high. Chun, Jason Wachs, and Kaikea Harrison contributed the team’s additional hits. Jacob Moore (2-1) emerged victorious in relief, escaping a late-game jam that included a line-out double play.
Tulane’s pitching staff delivered a commendable performance, with the bullpen combining for 4.2 scoreless innings, led by Will Clements, Wes Burton, Gavin Smith, and Tayler Montiel. Starter Luc Fladda had a challenging outing, conceding six runs (four earned).
In a game marked by back-and-forth scoring, Tulane struck first before NDSU responded with key hits, including an RBI triple from Davis Hamilton and a sacrifice fly that regained the lead for the Bison.
