Thousands Gather for ‘No Kings’ Protests Across North Dakota and Minnesota – InForum

Protests Across the Northlands Mark President Trump’s Birthday and Policies

On Saturday, Fargo to Grand Forks and throughout the northlands, thousands of protesters gathered for "No Kings" rallies, coinciding with a military parade in Washington, D.C., celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary and President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. Demonstrators voiced their opposition to Trump’s administration, citing concerns of authoritarianism and harm to democratic values.

In Fargo, former Judge Thomas Davies drew comparisons between Trump’s use of National Guard troops for protests and historical decisions made during the integration of Little Rock Central High School. Organizers estimated as many as 1,000 people participated in Grand Forks, expressing the need for democracy and unity across political lines.

Attendees across various cities, including Rochester and Brainerd, stressed the importance of speaking out against executive overreach and preserving civil liberties. Young speakers, like 17-year-old Jay Holmes, articulated fears for the future, while veterans shared their disappointment in Trump’s treatment of military values.

The rallies reflected a growing movement to reclaim democratic rights and oppose what many see as an increasing centralization of power in the executive branch, as community voices united in a call for accountability and presence in political discourse.
