Mitchell 18U Baseball Team Struggles at Phil Brown Classic
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Mitchell 18-and-under baseball team faced a challenging weekend at the Phil Brown Classic held at Jamestown’s Jack Brown Stadium from July 4-6, finishing without a win and bringing their season record to 5-8.
The tournament began on Friday with a close 4-2 loss to Gillette, Wyoming. Players Jaxson Hartman and Kaiden Allen each contributed an RBI, while Bailor Kristensen and Tyler Christensen crossed home plate. Despite their efforts, Mitchell was out-hit 11 to 4.
Saturday proved equally tough, with a narrow 3-2 defeat against Elmwood from Winnipeg, Canada, despite leading 2-0 at one point. In their second match that day, they fell to the host team, Jamestown, 6-1. Allen was the standout, scoring Mitchell’s lone run in that game.
Sunday’s matchup against Midway/Minto saw Mitchell leading until a disastrous final inning, where five unearned runs resulted in a 5-3 loss. Key performances included Christensen’s impressive pitching, striking out nine while Allen and Kristensen each secured an RBI.
Despite the setbacks, the team remains determined as they look to improve in upcoming games.
