North Dakota GOP Releases Additional Statement on Holmberg

Former North Dakota Senator Ray Holmberg Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Sex Crimes

FARGO, N.D. – Former state senator Ray Holmberg has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison following his conviction on sex crimes involving minors. The North Dakota GOP has taken significant steps to distance itself from Holmberg since his transgressions were revealed.

In a statement released on May 2, the party provided a timeline detailing their actions. In August 2024, Holmberg was stripped of his prestigious Elephant’s Celebrated Award. Subsequently, in October, the GOP conducted an internal audit of all monetary contributions made by him, subsequently donating the total amount to a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating child sex trafficking.

Following Holmberg’s sentencing in March 2025, the GOP swiftly condemned his actions, expressing their commitment to supporting legislation that enhances protections for children and maintains high ethical standards for public officials.

As of now, Holmberg is incarcerated at the Elk River jail while federal authorities finalize where he will serve his sentence. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the GOP’s efforts to address conduct that undermines public trust.
